Jambox Review – Find The Facts Here!

Jam It Up With The Jambox!

There are a lot of speakers produced nowadays which one can use for his or her MP3 player.  Somehow, not all cheaplyjambox review sold ones have impressed me so far.  Some of them are even close to perfect, but none of these really made it that far when it comes to my expectations of a great portable speaker. I have tried a lot of brands and I really have not found the one which one produces great music despite the portability.

One day, I chanced upon a friend of mine who share the same tastes in music as I do.  She really loves her iPod and would even spend as much as $100 for accessories.  One of the accessories she spent a lot on was a portable speaker.  She showed it to me and I found out she was using a portable speaker called the Jawbone Jambox.  Since she knows I have been looking for a good, portable speaker for some time already, she told me I could borrow it for a while so that I could test it out to see if it suits my taste.  I am glad she did.

So that I can carefully relay all the information I discovered about this wonderful speaker, I made this review which includes the features along with the benefits of using this product, the few cons I found in it, and my final take on it.

Jawbone Jambox Features: The Looks

When it comes to the design of the speaker, I give it two thumbs up.  The Jambox was made to be perfectly rectangular in shape and is designed with perfect, straight lines.  The top and the bottom are plated with hard rubber and there is a sturdy, metal grill in between which is wrapped all the way around the speaker’s body.  This metal grill is what I really find stylish about this speaker since it has a diamond pattern on it.  I researched the dimensions of this speaker to be 6” x 2.2” x 1.6” in HWD.  I also discovered it to be a bit heavy for a portable speaker since it weights about 12 ounces.

The controls and connectivity are minimally designed.  Aside from it having Bluetooth (a feature I really like), the only connectivity ports placed on the Jambox are the 3.5 mm  stereo audio port for those devices which use it, and the mini-USB port used to charge up the speaker.  On the side is the on-off switch and on the top are three rubber buttons which are used for adjusting the volume and also for receiving calls and getting spoken updates on the batter status (really, really cool!).

In colors, I found out that there are four different colors I can choose from if I’d be ordering my own speaker: black, blue, gray, and red.  I am reviewing the black version since this is what my friend currently has.  This black version is completely black and the only hint of color comes from the light the power switch gives off when in use or when it goes in charging mode.

I really find the design of this design beneficial to my tastes since it is designed in a simple way without the extra wires which I really did not like with other brands.  It looks very modern and sleek and I would be proud to bring it around with me and not get hassled by trying to untangle the wires on it since the wire cables are separate from the unit.

Jawbone Jambox Features: Its Performance

Considering the Jambox’s size, it really puts out a great sound.  I tried playing a few songs with the speaker volume turned way up and I suffered little distortion of the audio.  The quality of the calls when in speakerphone mode is good but not too perfect.  Still, from a speaker this size, I get more than adequate quality with my calls.

When it comes to battery life, I really find this feature very satisfying.  My friend left me her speaker for a week and I found that the battery can last over the weekend using the standby mode and when I get back to it, it still the same charge I left on it.  I read up some information on it on Jawbone and it says that Jambox can play about 8.5 hours of music.  The same number of hours goes for the speakerphone mode (and I know not all Bluetooth headsets and cell phones can handle speakerphone mode that long).

The Benefits I Find With Its Features

  • From the features I mentioned above, I was able to derive a few benefits I experienced in using the speaker.
  • The simple and minimal design is stylish.
  • The fact that it does not have too many controls makes it easier to use.
  • I do not have to keep untangling wires every time I want to use it since the wire cables can be disconnected from the unit and I can store them someplace else.
  • The great sound is adequate for those who plan to use it in their homes and not in front of a large crowd.
  • The battery life really tops it all.  Longer hours of music and talk time for me.

The Downside

The thing I find disadvantageous about this speaker is its price tag of $199.  I am not sure if the price is justified since the performance does not really top off the performance of those dedicated iPod speakers and docks I see.

Another downside to it is the slight distortion and noise when the volume goes all the way up both in my phone and on the speaker.  It does not really bother me that much but it would have been better if I could still have the same sound quality as it does on lower volume levels.  However, considering the size of the speaker, the sound quality’s pretty awesome already.

My Final Take

I really think that the price tag is a bit expensive, but since I have used for a long time (and have accidentally dropped it twice, I think) I think the quality and durability of the speaker is really a good reason for the current price tag to be so.  What is important is the quality so if I am to purchase this speaker, I would still be satisfied since it has more beneficial features than it has downsides.   I think I am getting one for it really is a great looking speaker plus, despite its size, it still produces great sound quality.
